Boating: Lake Norman offers excellent opportunities for boating. There is a boat ramp in the park for launching crafts; however, gas-powered motors are not allowed. Electric motors are permitted.

Fishing: Anglers can enjoy fishing from the shoreline or a boat. The lake is known for a variety of fish, including catfish, bass, and crappie. Make sure you have a North Carolina fishing license if you're planning to fish.

Swimming: A swimming area with a sandy beach is open to visitors during the summer months. Lifeguards are on duty at designated times.

Trails: Lake Norman State Park has a network of hiking and mountain biking trails. The Itusi Trail is an exciting choice for cyclists, offering more than 30 miles of single-track trail.

Picnicking: There are numerous picnic areas available throughout the park. Some have picnic tables and grills, and others have picnic shelters that can be reserved in advance.

Rules and Regulations

  • Fires: Only use designated fire rings or grills for campfires. Do not leave fires unattended.

  • Pets: Pets are allowed but must be kept on a leash that does not exceed six feet in length.

  • Alcohol: Alcohol is not permitted within the park.

  • Waste: Practice Leave No Trace principles and dispose of all waste properly.

  • Quiet Hours: There are established quiet hours within the campground, usually from 10 p.m. to 7 a.m.

Campsite reservations can be made online or by calling the reservation number, and there is usually a fee for camping. Fees vary based on the type of campsite and the time of year. It is advised to book well in advance, especially during the peak season and holidays.
