PA-414 is a state highway that runs through the Tiadaghton State Forest in north-central Pennsylvania. This forest covers over 146,539 acres of land and offers numerous recreational opportunities, including camping. Visitors to the Tiadaghton State Forest can enjoy the natural beauty of the Pine Creek Gorge, also known as the "Pennsylvania Grand Canyon".

Permits and Regulations

  • Primitive camping in state forest lands is generally permitted with a few guidelines to ensure the protection of natural resources and the enjoyment of visitors.

Types of Camping

  • Primitive Camping: For those looking to experience camping in a more remote and undeveloped setting, the Tiadaghton State Forest offers primitive campsites. These sites have few to no amenities and are located throughout the forest.
  • Designated Campsites: There are also designated campsites along PA-414 that may offer some amenities such as fire rings or picnic tables. These sites are usually accessible by vehicle.
  • Hiking Trail Camping: Backpackers can camp along trails, such as the Mid State Trail and the Black Forest Trail, but must follow guidelines regarding distance from the trail and water sources.

PA-414 can be accessed from major highways in Pennsylvania. The closest city with various services is Williamsport, which is located to the east of the forest. From there, you can take PA-44 north to connect to PA-414. The nearest town along PA-414 for last-minute supplies is Waterville or Jersey Shore, both east of the forest access points.
