Erie Bluffs State Park is a Pennsylvania state park located on the shores of Lake Erie, one of the Great Lakes. Known for its scenic beauty and natural features, Erie Bluffs is the largest undeveloped stretch remaining on the Pennsylvania Lake Erie shoreline.

Park Features

Natural Landscape: The park features 587 acres of land which include diverse habitats such as lakefront bluffs, wetlands, forest, streams, and the 90-foot-high Elk Creek accessible via hiking trails.

Wildlife: Visitors may have opportunities to view a variety of wildlife in their natural habitats, including migratory songbirds, raptors, deer, small mammals, and numerous species of plants.


Hiking: Multiple trails are available for hikers of all levels, offering views of the lake, bluffs, and inland environments.

Fishing: Anglers can enjoy fishing in Lake Erie for species such as walleye, bass, and perch. Elk Creek is also a popular spot for steelhead fishing.

Boating: Lake Erie offers boating opportunities (there are no boat rentals provided at the park so visitors must bring their own).

Wildlife Viewing: Birdwatching and observing wildlife are popular activities, especially during migratory seasons.

Hunting: Hunting is permitted in designated areas of the park during established seasons.


Erie Bluffs State Park does not offer camping facilities. Campers will need to seek camping options at nearby facilities outside the park. Sara's Campground, located on Presque Isle, and Lampe Marina Campground in Erie are possible alternatives for camping nearby.

Regulations and Safety

Visitors to Erie Bluffs State Park are expected to follow Pennsylvania state park regulations to preserve the natural environment and ensure the safety of all guests. Relevant rules include:

  • No swimming is allowed due to strong currents and dangerous conditions.
  • Leashed pets are permitted in designated areas.
  • Alcohol is prohibited in all Pennsylvania state parks.
  • Firearms and other weapons should be in compliance with state and federal laws.
