Overview of Red Rock Canyon Campground

Red Rock Canyon Campground is located within the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, approximately two miles east of the visitor center on W. Charleston Blvd (State Route 159). It's the only developed campground within the Conservation Area and is situated about 20 minutes from the Las Vegas Strip. The campground offers a scenic respite from the city along with an opportunity to enjoy the natural beauty and outdoor activities that Red Rock Canyon has to offer.

Seasons and Availability

Open Season: The campground is generally open from September through May. The exact opening and closing dates may vary from year to year based on weather and other conditions.

Closed Season: During the hot summer months (typically from early June to the end of August), the campground is closed due to extreme temperatures.

Reservations and Walk-ins: Some sites are available on a reservation basis, while others are offered on a first-come, first-served basis. You can make reservations up to six months in advance through a national reservation service.

Camping Options and Facilities

Tent and RV Camping: The campground provides a variety of sites including standard tent sites, RV sites, and group sites. RV sites include pull-through and back-in sites, but there are no hookups available for water, sewer, or electricity.

Facilities:

  • Picnic tables
  • Fire pits and/or grills
  • Pit toilets

  • Trash dumpsters

Please note that there are no shower facilities, electric hookups, or dump stations available.

Fees

Camping Fees: Camping fees vary according to the type of site you choose. Fees may be subject to change, so it's advisable to check the latest information on the official Bureau of Land Management (BLM) website or the campground reservation system for current pricing.

Entrance Fees: There is also a fee to enter the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area. Passes include a day pass or various annual passes. Fee information can be found on the Red Rock Canyon website or at the fee station upon entering.

Regulations and Safety

Fire Regulations: Due to the dry conditions, fire regulations are strict. Only use fire rings or grills provided, and always completely extinguish fires before leaving your site or going to sleep. Always check current fire restrictions.

Wildlife: Store food and scented items securely to avoid attracting wildlife to your campsite.

Check the Weather: Weather can change quickly, so be prepared for the possibility of sudden high winds or rain.

Leave No Trace: Practice Leave No Trace principles to minimize your impact on the environment.

  • Rock Climbing: Red Rock Canyon is famous for its rock climbing opportunities.
  • Scenic Drive: The 13-mile scenic drive offers many viewpoints and access to trailheads and picnic areas.
